Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 May 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how MenuWise collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the MenuWise mobile app, website, support pages, and related services.
Who we are
MenuWise is a mobile app that helps users scan restaurant menus and estimate meal nutrition, diet fit, and allergy conflicts. In this policy, "MenuWise", "we", "us", and "our" refer to the operator of MenuWise.
Information you provide
MenuWise may store the following information when you choose to provide it:
- Profile details such as name, age, gender, height, weight, activity level, nutrition goals, diet preferences, and allergens.
- Scan history, saved meal estimates, app settings, and manual nutrition corrections.
- Optional profile photo selected from your photo library.
- Support messages or email content you send to us.
Most profile, scan, settings, and correction data is stored locally on your device so the app can work without requiring a MenuWise account.
Camera and menu images
MenuWise uses your camera to scan menu text only after you grant camera permission. Menu images are processed to extract text and estimate nutrition. The app is designed to discard captured menu images after processing and does not use your camera in the background.
Photo library
If you choose a profile photo, MenuWise may access the photo you select from your photo library. MenuWise does not access your full photo library unless you grant permission through iOS.
Usage and diagnostic data
When you use the app, website, or backend services, some technical information may be collected automatically. This may include device type, operating system, app version, IP address, request time, pages visited on our website, backend request metadata, crash or diagnostic data, and other information needed to operate, secure, and improve the service.
Subscriptions and purchases
MenuWise PRO+ subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We use RevenueCat to help manage subscription status. Purchase data may include subscription status, product identifiers, transaction identifiers, and app user identifiers needed to unlock paid features.
Fraud prevention and free scan limits
MenuWise uses Apple DeviceCheck for fraud prevention and to enforce free whole-menu scan limits. DeviceCheck allows Apple to verify the device and lets our backend store a small abuse-prevention state for that device. We do not use IDFA, advertising tracking, or custom device fingerprinting.
How we use information
We use information to:
- Provide meal estimates, profile-based recommendations, diet alerts, and allergy conflict warnings.
- Save your local preferences, scan history, and app settings.
- Process and restore PRO+ subscription access.
- Enforce free scan limits and prevent abuse.
- Respond to support requests.
- Monitor, debug, secure, and improve MenuWise.
- Comply with legal obligations and App Store requirements.
Backend services
MenuWise may contact our Vercel-hosted backend for DeviceCheck verification and free scan limit enforcement. The backend is used for app functionality and fraud prevention.
Service providers
We may share limited information with service providers that help operate MenuWise. These include Apple for App Store purchases and DeviceCheck, RevenueCat for subscription entitlement management, and Vercel for website and backend hosting. These providers process information according to their own policies and our service needs.
Data sharing and legal disclosure
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for third-party advertising. We may disclose information if required by law, to respond to valid legal requests, to protect MenuWise and its users, to prevent misuse, or as part of a business transfer such as a merger, acquisition, or asset sale.
Retention
Local app data remains on your device until you delete it, uninstall the app, or reset the app data. Subscription records are retained by Apple and RevenueCat as needed to manage purchases, refunds, restores, and legal obligations. Backend logs and abuse-prevention records are kept only as long as needed for security, debugging, fraud prevention, legal compliance, and service operation.
Delete your data
You can delete local app data from MenuWise settings by using Delete Profile/Data. This deletes your local profile, scan history, settings, and saved corrections from the device. App Store subscription cancellation is handled through Apple account subscriptions settings. DeviceCheck anti-abuse counters may remain because they are used to prevent free scan limit abuse. You can also contact us for privacy questions or deletion requests.
International processing
Our service providers may process information in countries other than where you live. Where information is transferred, we rely on reasonable safeguards and the policies of the service providers used to operate MenuWise.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children's privacy
MenuWise is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can take appropriate action.
Third-party links
MenuWise and our website may link to third-party websites or services, including Apple subscription management and Apple's standard licensed application end user license agreement. We are not responsible for third-party privacy practices.
Nutrition and allergy estimates
MenuWise provides best-estimate nutrition and diet/allergy warnings. The app does not verify ingredients or preparation. Always confirm ingredients, allergens, and preparation with the venue before ordering.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates are effective when posted on this page, with the updated date shown above.
